Climate Change Caused
The impacts shown on this website are caused by climate change. They are not enhanced by or made worse because of climate change. Catastrophes do not happen unless thresholds are crossed. Ecologies are collapsing. Warming has created hostile conditions that are now beyond the evolutionary boundaries of Earth’s systems. Tenth grade science tells us when this happens collapse occurs. The systems then re-evolve when new species take over that can survive the new conditions.
These collapses create climate tipping responses that once begun, do not stop unless the warming threshold is reversed before the point of no return. This is why we hear “irreversible climate tipping.” The only way to stabilize or stop these irreversible Earth systems tipping collapses is to restore the evolutionary boundary conditions where these ecologies evolved. Traditional solutions that limit warming to 1.5 degrees C warming above normal can not stabilize tipping; this can only be done by cooling Earth to a temperature cooler than today’s 1.0 degrees C warming above normal. To prevent irreversible collapse of Earth’s systems and preserve our advanced human civilization, we must restore our old climate before the point of no return, by mid-century or sooner, or suffer existential scenarios for humankind.
Our Captions Tell the Story
Each image on this site has a caption that tells its story. We have travelled over 100,000 miles across North America to bring you these stories; written over 500 reviews of the most critical climate science focusing on impacts, and we talk to the scientists doing the research almost every day. This story is the single most important story that has ever been. The Earth’s systems responsible for the evolution of our human culture are now in collapse. These collapses are directly related to climate tipping, and unless tipping is stabilized by restoring Earth’s systems evolutionary boundaries, existential scenarios result for humankind.
For a deeper dive into the very fabric of our climate culture’s response to global warming, from the latest and most important new developments caused by 30 years delay in action, our independent stakeholder group’s Climate Emergency Response lays out the science in plain English.
