Melton on his house in Oak Hill during the Pinnacle Fire that destroyed 11 homes in 2011 during Austin’s new Drought of Record, the worst drought ever recorded in the region. An Austin American Statesman photographer captured the moment. Melton’s wife, daughter and cats had evacuated. The firefighters told Melton they could not require him to evacuate.
