Southern Yukon Black Spruce Permafrost Collapse

Black Spruce forests like this one seem particularly susceptible to permafrost collapse. This is probably because black spruce are the only tree that will grow on the 18 inches of unfrozen soil for a few months each summer. These sparsely forested areas just seem particularly prone to trouble.
